On April 24th, Hawthorne Valley will once again host the American Red Cross for a Blood Drive. Please consider stopping by anytime from 1 to 6pm to donate blood.
The October drive was an encouraging success. In addition to the obvious lifesaving benefits of all those blood donations by HVA co-workers, HVS students and parents, and members of the greater Columbia County community, the success of the drive put us in a good position to earn a scholarship for the school. If most of us who donated before donate next month, that scholarship will be assured.
Two very important steps to take in preparation for donating blood:
- Keep your iron level up; at every drive, we have had over the years, low iron has been the most common reason that potential donors could not give blood. Eating foods high in iron and/or taking an iron supplement in the week preceding the drive helps a lot.
- Drink more water and eat more heartily than usual the day before and the day of the blood drive.
