Maria Acciani
Grade 6 Class Teacher
Maria grew up locally in Chatham, NY, and attended Hawthorne Valley as a student from kindergarten through 8th grade. After high school, she attended St. John’s College, a small, rigorous liberal arts college in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Although she thoroughly enjoyed the entire Great Books program, she was particularly drawn to literature, philosophy, and languages. After graduating, Maria worked a wide variety of outdoor jobs in the southwestern U.S., culminating in becoming an instructor at Boulder Outdoor Survival School in Boulder Town, Utah, where she still occasionally teaches courses in the summer. Maria did her Waldorf teacher training through Waldorf Teacher Education in Eugene, Oregon. She is thrilled to return to Hawthorne Valley as a teacher and is grateful to call this place her home once again. Besides teaching, Maria loves spending time with her husband Matthew and their two cats, Mona and Heloise.
