Leave the daily grind behind for an hour or two and experience the electric thrill of thrumming violins and exultant woodwinds surrounding you! Grab your instrument and come make music with locals – of all ages – in the Hawthorne Valley Community Orchestra!

Meets Thursdays, 6:30-8 pm,
September 14- early June 2018
Open to students in grades 7-12 and adults who play a string, woodwind or brass instrument
Directed by Gretchen Rueckheim

Our goal in this group is to provide an enjoyable quality musical experience every week and this will require that the members jump in with both feet right from the start. Faithful attendance and conscientious weekly practice are essential for development and morale. Enthusiastic players only, please!

About Orchestra Director

Gretchen Rueckheim is a versatile musician, with training and experience in choral, keyboard, and instrumental music. She studied music education at SUC Fredonia and performance at Michigan State University.

While a student at Fredonia, she performed professionally with the Erie Philharmonic Orchestra in Erie, Pa. At Michigan State, Ms. Rueckheim toured with the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, and Symphony Orchestra.

The past several years, Ms. Rueckheim has conducted the Hudson Valley Choral Society in performances of many major and minor choral works.

She teaches keyboard and instrumental music at Little Falls School of Music in Kinderhook, and has a band instrument repair business.

Ms. Rueckheim will be teaching orchestra and string ensemble at Hawthorne Valley School beginning in September.
