Hawthorne Valley Association

Parent Teacher Association

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School fosters a healthy relationship between parents, faculty and staff. We provide bi-weekly opportunities to get together (monthly evening meetings, and morning Coffee Hours once a month) with a focus on parent education, announcements regarding event planning/organizing, volunteering opportunities, and updates or discussions about school policy. We strive to keep communication and information flowing from parents to faculty and staff. We have conversations that address pressing new issues or projects that parents, faculty, or staff feel are important to discuss or express in an open forum in order to share information and feedback.

The PTA invites all parents, faculty, and staff to these meetings, an open and receptive place for discussion and discourse on topics of education and the overall school community. Join us monthly on first Thursday from 8:15 am until 9:15 am for our “Coffee Hour and Social Gathering” in the Teaching Kitchen with warm beverages and snacks to share. We also encourage parents to join us the third Wednesday of each month from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, for more structured PTA meetings.

Festival Volunteering

Festivals are an integral part of life here at Hawthorne Valley. The school hosts two festivals annually: the Yuletide Fair in early December and the May Day Celebration & Spring Fair in early May. The school relies on parents to volunteer for at least two festivals. Each class has designated volunteer tasks, and within each class, parents are asked to volunteer to work during festivals or prepare baked goods, crafts etc. prior to the event. This act of volunteering helps to bring the spirit of the parents and families into the school life and supports festivals.

Yuletide Fair

The Yuletide Fair is the school’s largest festival and takes place each winter in early December. The fair engages everyone in the community – kids, teachers, parents, extended family members and friends! It is a magical event and one of the greatest opportunities to express our individual talents and to experience the strength and unique beauty of our community. The fair also contributes significantly to the school’s fundraising efforts. Much preparation, planning, and crafting go into making the fair an outstanding event for everyone!

May Day Celebration & Spring Fair

On the first Saturday in May each year, the school community comes together to celebrate the joyful arrival of Spring and seasonal renewal. The celebration includes Maypole dancing, singing, games, puppet shows, and festivities for all ages.

Opportunities to Volunteer on the Farm

There is no better way to get to know Hawthorne Valley and to connect with the rhythms of this place than to spend a little time in the field with our farmers.

The farm often needs and always welcomes the support of many hands from our community to help with various planting, weeding, and harvesting tasks. These experiences offer the opportunity to gather with farmers and community members, experience the joy of harvest, and go home with some fresh Biodynamic® produce from our farm! Keep an eye on your email for volunteer calls throughout the growing season.
