Early childhood through grade 12

Hawthorne Valley Association

We are thrilled to share that over the summer, 8th grader Francis Connor-Schmid participated in the USA 14U Baseball Championship (NTIS)!

Francis has been playing baseball for over three years, and currently plays with Rip City in Dalton, MA, and Cage Heat in Hudson. At the encouragement of one of his coaches, he tried out for the National Team Identification Series, and made the NorthEast Stripes team that represents the Eastern states from Maine to Virginia.

The tournament was held in North Carolina from August 15-21. The NorthEast Stripes were in a hard bracket, but played four games against teams from throughout the United States.

“It was awesome,” Francis says. “The best part was meeting all the best players from all over the country. There were so many talented, cool people there.”

Francis also appreciated the opportunity to have all his statistics recorded as he played and to learn more about pitching and hitting from his coaches. Twelve players from the tournament will be chosen in the next few weeks to play on the USA Baseball national 15U team. Francis says if he isn’t chosen for that, he looks forward to trying out again next year.

Francis is also a valued teammate on our Wildcats Boys Modified Basketball Team, and we congratulate him on his accomplishments. We look forward to seeing what comes next on his sports journey!
